Hi…!
My name is Laura Jerrolds. I’m 28 (almost 29), and I’m an author, biographer, historian, and an all-around dreamer.
In May 2022, right after graduating from the Florida Institute of Technology, I published my first book—Help…! It’s 1928!. The story, a middle-grade tale of time travel, stars Riley and Eleanor, two girls from different walks of life. To say they changed my life is an understatement.
It was while writing and researching the 1920s for Help…! It’s 1928! that I discovered a true love for the decade. I wanted to learn everything and anything about the era, specifically pop culture-related news.
That brings us to Laura La Plante, the silent film actress. I discovered her through my research and felt connected to her since we share a first name. I immediately went to see if there was a book on her that I could read. There wasn’t.
I guess I’ll have to write it myself, I thought.
In a future blog post, I intend to go into more depth with this topic, as the biography has ruled my life in the most beautiful way.
Now that the Laura La Plante biography is in my publisher’s hands, I’m focusing again on fiction writing for the time being. The final book in my time travel trilogy will come out in Spring 2024. (The second in the set is Wait…! It’s 1884! with Princess Adelaide and Carrie).
What I’m reading: I’ve been on a Kathleen Norris (1880-1966) kick for two months now. The book I’m on is Saturday’s Child from 1914. I LOVE antique books and have collected hundreds of them.
What I’m writing: I’m currently editing the third draft of my manuscript for the final time travel story in the trilogy. Wooo! I am very excited about it. I’m also writing notes for another research project!!! I will be keeping my subject a secret for now, but she is another 1920s actress.
What I’m listening to: Podcasts. SO MANY Podcasts. My favorites are Dolls of Our Lives, The Tinsel Factory, The Lives and Styles of Old Hollywood, Be There in Five, The SSR Podcast, and Double Love. Send your recommendations my way, please!!
What I’m watching: Aside from a constant loop of Gilmore Girls episodes, I have been watching lots of 1930s films. The last one I watched was The Thin Man (1934), and I loved it. Myrna Loy is incredible!
That’s it for now! If you’d like to subscribe, it would be much appreciated. Future blog posts will be coming about research, writing, book recommendations, etc.!
Much love,
Laura Jerrolds
Felicitaciones. Comenzaré a usar a full el traductor o pedir ayuda a mi hijo que se está por recibir de profesor de inglés.
Can’t wait for both books!! As far as podcasts go, you might like the Sleepover Cinema podcast - they review movies and music from our childhood (Bratz, Holiday in the Sun, etc.)!
